Greetings, musicooks, from Maria Mourkoussi, a Greek soprano hoping to become your online “sommelière de musique”! Wash your hands, wear aprons (and masks), and get ready for some delightful cooking full of music and fun! Melody and rhythm are two magical ingredients that will give an uplifting taste to your recipes.
So, let the music play (with food)!
Let it transform us into kitchen wizards!
Soulful Music & Heartfelt Food
Soprano in the Kitchen is an original project created by opera singer and food lover Maria Mourkoussi. It combines gastronomy and music, two complementary forms of art speaking a universal language with no words.
The aim of this project is to soothe the viewer’s/listener’s eyes and ears with food-related images and beautiful melodies; to bring together people of all ages, genders, professions, and origins sharing the passion of art, music, and taste; to urge everyone to listen to their flavours and taste their melodies; and to help them make soulful music and heartfelt food.
Each post is like a four-part composition, or a recipe made with four ingredients if you like. It consists of: a Photograph featuring local produces or a home-made recipe prepared by Soprano in the Kitchen with fresh ingredients by Greek farmers; a (hopefully suitable) Music Pairing suggestion for each food theme, i.e. a music piece carefully ‒ and rather subjectively ‒ selected to match each dish; a Food Note including short information about the dish or produce shown in the photograph; and a Music Bite, a brief text focusing on the selected melody, the composer and/or the performer(s), followed by a YouTube link to help you have a fuller gastro-audiovisual experience when visiting the website.
Soprano in the Kitchen is a multi-tasking solo player. She pairs food and music herself; cooks, styles, photographs food on her own; creates content and produces texts single-handed. She is also self-taught and self-financed (for the time being at least!).
Please feel free to share your emotions about Soprano in the Kitchen with us. Send us a brief message in the section Your Feelings, our digital guestbook. Your opinion matters, no matter which language you speak.
