Sokratis Sinopoulos plays the Constantinople lyra, a bowed instrument that goes back to the Byzantine era. He is one of the best-known soloists of the instrument not only in Greece but also in Europe. Sokratis writes music too. His compositions combine contemporary style with folk tradition and are usually performed by his own Quartet. All four are fantastic musicians! In their critically acclaimed recordings and live performances, they fearlessly cross genre boundaries, sharing with their audience magical soundscapes with strong jazzy vibes and warm Mediterranean colours.

Another amazing dish with aromas from Asia Minor. Soutzoukakia, spicy meatballs baked in tomato sauce. A recipe brought to continental Greece by refugees from Smyrna: beef and pork mince mixed with bread soaked in wine but with no onion at all. I skipped the side dish with rice (or pilaf), replacing it with bulgur, raisins, pine nuts and some finely chopped leaves of parsley, just to give it some freshness. Yoghurt might be a good option too.
