Johann Strauss II, “Hellenen Polka/The Polka of the Hellenes”.

The “Polka of the Hellenes” was created by Johann Strauss II in 1856 at Simon Sinas’ request, the Greek ambassador in Vienna. Simon and Georgios Sinas count among the most prominent national benefactors of modern Greece, making donations to charitable, educational, and scientific foundations. The work was composed for the annual ball of the ethnic Greek community in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
