Born to a modest French family, André Caplet (1878-1925) excelled as a composer and conductor, won numerous prizes and prestigious awards, and collaborated closely with Claude Debussy in several projects. His “Épiphanie” for cello and orchestra (1923), was inspired after an Ethiopian legend. “It depicts the journey of the Magi to Bethlehem and taxes the soloist in music of mostly impressionistic flavor with perhaps a dash of Prokofiev.” (Source: www.recordsinternational.com).
