The three-act opera “Flora Mirabilis” by Spyros Filiskos-Samaras premiered in Milan, Italy in 1886. Samaras (1861-1915), a prominent representative of the Ionian Music School, recognised for his talent by Mascagni and Leoncavallo, used the libretto of the Italian Ferdinando Fontana to create a memorable symbolic work based on medieval Swedish legends about winter and spring, life and death, light and darkness.
