A pioneer of R & B, American saxophonist Louis Jordan (1908-1975) was one of the first Black entertainers with top selling recordings and appreciable popularity. His strong sense of humor (and probably of taste) was expressed in the titles of his songs: "Cole Slaw", “Boogie Woogie Blue Plate”, “Beans and Cornbread”, “Saturday Night Fish Fry”.

Cabbage with rice, or lahanoryzo, is a wholesome and flavourful Greek dish that can be enjoyed as a main course or a side. My version features tender cabbage sprouts, crisp baby carrots, finely chopped onion and garlic, and perfectly glazed rice, all brought together with fresh lemon zest and juice and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
