Apricot-Mastic Truffles

eat, classical, summer, sweet, fasting, spring, music

Food Notes

Delicious tiny (and shiny!) bites of sweetness. Dried apricot truffles with almond flour and mastic liqueur, coated with glazed sugar.

Music Pairing

Maurice Ravel, “Chanson d´amour des cueilleuses des lentisques de Chios/Love song of the lentisk pickers in Chios” from the art song cycle “Cinq mélodies populaires grecques/Five Popular Greek Melodies”.

Music Bites

The collection "Five Popular Greek Melodies" (1906) includes anonymous folk songs gathered mainly from the island of Chios and harmonized by Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). Four of them were recorded on wax cylinder phonographs by the passionate Hellenist Hubert Pernot. Ravel composed the “Love song of the lentisk pickers” upon request of his friend Michel Dimitri Calvocoressi, who was of Greek descent.
