This suite was written in 1882 by the English composer Sir Hubert Parry (1848-1918) on commission of the University of Cambridge for a production of Aristophanes’ comedy “The Birds”. The most popular part of his witty and elegant incidental music is the Bridal March. Parry is best known for the hymn “Jerusalem”, the coronation anthem “I Was Glad", and the work for choir and orchestra "Blest Pair of Sirens".
