Brussels Sprouts

Food Notes

Deep inside me, Brussels sprouts are strongly associated with battles for losing weight and spring-cleaning diets. Eating veggies with carboardish taste has always been a problem, I reckon! However, I decided to give them one more chance. I discovered that steam cooking and seasoning with squeezed fresh lemon and extra virgin olive oil can make these organic sprouts (grown in Evia) much more appealing to hungry palates!

Music Pairing

Jacques Brel, “Le plat pays/The Flat Country”.

Music Bites

Jacques Brel, one of the greatest French-speaking stars of the 1960s and 1970s, wrote this song is a homage to Belgium, his home country. There is also a Dutch-language version, performed by Brel too. The lyrics talk about the North Sea, the winds, the low and grey sky, and the cathedrals as “the only mountains” of his homeland.
