It belongs to the 5th Book of a 8-volume series of piano works entitled “Songs Without Words” (1829-1845). The 5th Book was dedicated by Felix Mendelssohn to German virtuoso pianist and composer Clara Schumann. The piece has also been arranged for orchestra and other combinations of instruments.
